This chain necklace is a time-honored-appearing item, Berber (Amazigh) or North African origin based on its design and construction. It’s in an open-twist, stiff form typical of traditional Amazigh jewelry. The metal is silver 925 , which is standard in such traditional piecework. The band is delicately adorned with geometric etchings and symbolic motifs that often carry cultural significance. In the middle of the necklace, a large slightly domed pendant with a central raised knob and scalloped borders, is the centerpiece of the item. Along each side of the band, additional engraved motifs in leaf or stylized heart form add to the appearance. These types of necklaces are usually hand-made and can represent identity, protection, femininity, and heritage in Amazigh society. They are usually reserved for special events or passed down through generations as family heirlooms.
